Weed out rates as you move up the ladder

Hey,

Wondering how tough it gets to move up. I have a decent idea of the pay ranges and work, but how many get weeded out?

Once you land an MBB consulting job out of UG (the tough part for me), it seems fairly stable... go to MBA with a return offer waiting that will get you a salary of 180k (bonus included). That seems like at least 4 years of my life set once I hopefully make an MBB offer. What about from senior consultant (post-MBA) onwards. How many don't make it to manager, to PL, all the way up to partner? If you get "weeded out" aka not asked to return, where do these people move on to typically? If there is a typical path at all.

Thanks.
Eager UG looking for MBB lol

Get in first and then worry- because frankly the job sucks and 180k might not even be worth it. The smartest dudes leave voluntarily, the dumb ones get knocked out, the average ones with no where to go stay and become slaves

This. 180k seems like a lot of money when you (or your parents) are paying 40k a year to go to a good college. But unless you really have a narrow sense of living your perspective on life typically changes at least somewhat once you leave school for the first time in your life.

Leave to go where? PE? Would like to be informed. The job seems more engaging than IB, and with less hours I'm willing to take the pay cut, at least in the early stages.

Thanks!
