What should I do to improve my chances??

Hi there,

I am a first year undergrad student at pretty good european business school and I am starting to realize that my future lies within consulting. Supposing that this really is the case and that I would like to work at MBB after my masters degree, what steps can I take right now to improve my chances?

Lots of banks have been coming to my school and promoting their spring week programs and later on their internships but none of it seems to be for prospective consultants and I'm starting to wonder if consulting firms even have summer internships at all. If they do, how do I improve my chances of getting one, and if not, what should I do instead?? Would it be too early to apply for a MBB internship after two of the three undergrad years?

And it's not that consulting firms don't target my school, all three of MBB have been quite active and numerous alumnis work at MBB but I just never hear of any internships or spring week things.

What sort of things do I want to collect for my resume? Is there something the recruiters especially like? Volunteer work, leadership qualities etc?

I know it's probably been said in one way or another already but I would really appreciate some good answers to these questions.

Thanks a lot!
