Asset-Backed Finance Collateral Modeling

Does anyone know where I can find collateral models for consumer assets like personal loans, credit cards, etc.? Trying to understand how to model some of this collateral so any direction here would be helpful.

I did a few last summer as an intern

Pretty much from what I remember for mortgage backed securities, you get the loan book and manually calculate the figures in excel

You would first screen the data with summaries and check if there are any gaps or unexplainable figures that the client needs to resolve

Then you calculate the WA metrics for each portfolio

Summarise the data and graph them accordingly

If it's a single asset or a portfolio, I think you were able to model their individual / combined cash flows to a point (don't think it was the same for MBS)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, while there isn't a direct mention of specific collateral models for consumer assets like personal loans or credit cards, you might find value in exploring the WSO Free Modeling Series. This series includes lessons taught by experienced private equity professionals and investment bankers, covering financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, and Comps. Additionally, it offers 27 financial modeling templates in a swipe file, which could potentially include relevant frameworks or be adapted for your needs.

If you're looking for more specialized resources, consider checking out materials like S&P's Leveraged Loan Primer or other primers on credit agreements, as these can provide insights into credit modeling and collateral evaluation. For a deeper dive into credit-focused modeling, Moyer's Distressed Debt Analysis is also a recommended resource, offering a perspective on credit through a structured lens.
