CIM based Case Study

Hi everyone,

In less than one week I have a case interview for the role corporate finance & valuation executive at KPMG. I have received an Information Memorandum of a "fictive" company. No prompts or questions to prepare. I do get 1,5 hours to answer the questions on the spot and to prepare a presentation.  Does anyone have an idea of what exactly to expect and how to prepare?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to help you prepare for your case interview at KPMG:

What to Expect:

  1. Financial Analysis:

    • Be prepared to analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Focus on key financial metrics such as revenue growth, EBITDA margins, and cash flow generation.
  2. Valuation Techniques:

    • You might need to perform various valuation methods such as Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Comparable Company Analysis (Comps), and Precedent Transactions.
    • Ensure you understand how to apply these methods and interpret the results.
  3. Strategic Analysis:

    • Assess the company's market position, competitive landscape, and growth opportunities.
    • Consider the industry trends and how they impact the company's future performance.
  4. Risk Assessment:

    • Identify potential risks and challenges the company might face.
    • Discuss how these risks could affect the valuation and overall business strategy.

How to Prepare:

  1. Review Financial Modeling Resources:

    • Utilize resources like the DCF Modeling Training and 3 Statement Model guides available on WSO.
    • Practice building financial models and performing sensitivity analysis.
  2. Understand Valuation by McKinsey:

    • This book is a great resource for understanding advanced valuation techniques and applying them in real-world scenarios.
  3. Practice with Case Studies:

    • Go through case studies and practice presenting your findings. Focus on structuring your analysis logically and clearly.
  4. Prepare for Behavioral Questions:

    • Although your focus will be on technical skills, be ready to answer behavioral questions about your experience and how you handle challenges.
  5. Mock Interviews:

    • Consider scheduling mock interviews with professionals to get feedback on your performance and improve your presentation skills.

By focusing on these areas, you'll be well-prepared to tackle the case interview and demonstrate your expertise in corporate finance and valuation. Good luck!
