Corp Dev Lateral Move with $40k Paycut to learn more?
Currently a Corp Dev analyst at unicorn tech startup in the Bay Area. Long story short, I don't do M&A but rather small impact strategy, ops and finance projects. There is no M&A strategy for the next few years. Currently interviewing for a Corp Dev analyst role at a Healthcare system in San Diego focused on M&A.
- Pro: (1)I get to add to my technical skills and learn the ins-and-outs of M&A. (2)Smart team
- Con: (1)$30k-$40k less total comp. (2)Leave the Bay Area.
Should I take it? Thoughts?

Fuck no, that's ridiculous. Corp Dev is not as glamorous as you think, unless you truly have a hard on for M&A there's a high chance you regret the hell out of taking such a big paycut (assuming your comp is currently in the mid to low 100s range).
Even if you do I'd wait out for a role that pays more…
