Development from Analyst to Senior/Associate

I have a couple of months left of my rotational program and will be promoted to a senior analyst position at the end of the program. I understand the development that is necessary to make the transition at my company, but I wanted to hear what you guys think as well: If an analyst wants to get promoted to a senior/associate position at your firm, where should he/she focus their development efforts?

My development areas are in the following:

Industry Knowledge * Any schmuck can calculate ratios and refresh reports. Where you bring value is when you understand the business drivers behind the numbers and are thinking about the second and third tier affect behind business actions.

Strategic Positioning * It is easy to get stuck in the day-to-day of your rotation, role, responsibilities. To move up in the chain of command, you need to understand what is going on in the industry, the performance of your competition, and how your firm is positioning itself.

Communication * Your VP doesn't give a shit how you refreshed the report and came to your conclusion. Get him the story and driver behind the numbers and make sure its accurate. You can talk in more detail about the process to your team. Know who you're talking to.
