For all you Val guys...
I'm starting at a boutique IB/Val firm in their val department and am looking to be the top guy from day one.
Anything you guys recommend I brush up on or practice? I hear it's pretty modeling heavy. Any specific "do it yourself" modeling courses you suggest? What books should I familiarize myself with?
I am looking to knock this one out of the park from day one, and I want to be as prepped as possible.

My buddy in val does a lot of purchase price allocations--what industry does it specialize in? Any in particular?

Valuation is a lot of common sense once you know the framework. I think chapter 4 of the employee stock valuation book gives a good high level of valuation approaches. Like I said, this is all overkill.
I believe I will be doing a lot of Fairness Opinions, as well as PPA, Goodwill Impairment, BK/distressed valuation, employee stock valuation. I will definitely take a look at that. Thanks for the help.
I will be focusing mainly on financial and industrial sectors of the private market and retail and F500 companies within the public market.
What did your friend say about his overall experience in val? I'm excited that it isn't for a big 4 because I know a lot of big 4 val acts as audit support. So I'm glad I won't be locked in with that.
