JP Morgan to Vegas

JPM has announced that they will open a commercial banking outpost in Las Vegas.

With all the alcohol, gambling, and other illicit activities, what could go wrong? Although many things could go wrong (hangover-esque nights), I doubt anything remotely major will happen.

Digressing a bit, but in a hypothetical situation in which your firm opens a new office, would you guys prefer working in Vegas or Amsterdam (assuming the office is in close proximity to the Red Light District)?

What do you higher primates think about the expansion to Vegas? Fun nights at the Bellagio? Good strategy by JPM to expand to regional markets? More sectors/divisions in Vegas to come in the future?

As someone who lives in Las Vegas I think this is a very poor decision for JPM. From my understanding and experience in Commercial Banking it has come to my attention that the market is very much tapped for business. That is being driven by the expansion of the Golden Knights and the relocation of the Raiders, and it has produced very short term thinking for the firm. Wells Fargo BofA US Bank and Zion all have a very big presence in the area.

I have mixed feelings about the city as a whole. I can say in some areas of the city are incredibly wealthy, and you get a good bang for your buck. The night life is fun for a little bit but as all big cities you realize tourist enjoy it more. Traffic near the strip is miserable. I do not see a lot of opportunity in the city for someone pursuing finance unless you want to work in a casino.

If someone wants to get wasted and get hookers they don't need to be in Vegas or Amsterdam, there is a market for this even in fkn Davos.

You killed the Greece spread goes up, spread goes down, from Wall Street they all play like a freak, Goldman Sachs 'o beat.

I'd much rather open shop in Amsterdam. Vegas is an overall great entertainment destination, but it's too glitzy for a lot of people, and hot as shit. Amsterdam is more scenic, and a short high speed train ride to the rest of Europe. As the capital of a former colonial empire, there's a lot of diversity in Amsterdam, especially with cuisine like Malaysian and Indonesian. The hookers are a nice touch too, but the ones you can get in Vegas could be better if they're more high-end.
