Moving From Business Development To Corporate Development

I am ultimately interested in corporate development but I don't currently have a background to be competitive for a corporate development analyst position. I understand that corporate development and business development are very different more often than not.

I am thinking about taking a Business Development Analyst position at Lockheed Martin while I start and end my part-time MBA program. Would this position in business development get me closer to corporate development?

How easy is it to transfer from business development to corporate development post-MBA?

 

It's all about networking. It's definitely doable and corporate development is one of the big areas post-MBAs go into. I wouldn't say business development and corp dev are not related with one another. Some corp dev groups do more than just M&A. To evaluate whether this will get you closer to corp dev you need to tell us what your other options are! Compared to back office? Of course it'll get you closer.

However, you should make sure that the department recruits people from part-time MBAs; I know corp strat in my company does not.
