Was talking about this with a new employee -- this question has many, many, many rabbit holes to run down.

The short answer is no, there is no standard definition.

I'll give you my professional history, which includes a few biotechs and more recently a few healthcare delivery systems.

The Financial Analyst role can range anywhere from accounting (I've known a few people in "Financial Analyst" titled positions who do journal entries) to reporting on monthly budget variances to being the day-to-day lead on debt issuances, budget preparation, and small- to mid-sized due dilligence teams (on this front, I most recently PM'd the day-to-day efforts for a +/- $25 million acquisition....)

My role is titled as a "Senior FA" and I handle all of the last three items as well as all business planning for my current company.

Your mileage in any group with a FA title will vary significantly with how the organization deploys financial reporting and responsibility. The key is to know enough about your target groups ahead of time so you don't waste any time going through the interview motions.
