i heard long hours, decent culture but the pay is shockingly below market. internal analysts mentioned to avoid at all costs. they’re in the middle of a merger, workload is high, morale is terrible
Their portfolio is struggling - look at their nonaccruals over the past couple quarters. The BDC is underperforming other similar comps in the market. Folks internally say workload is not manageable and there’s concern with the founders leaving and Sunlife taking over. Some big egos at the top who can’t see the forest from the trees and are reportedly tough to deal with. It’s sad because they did so well for so many years under Attanasio and team, but now with most of them gone, who knows. Take everything with a grain of salt since I’ve only heard this from other people, but the data and facts should raise some concern. Don’t know much about the LA office, but know NYC was tough and has been a bit of a revolving door
Their lower middle market team up in Boston is pretty strong, we work with them/compete against them often - they're also taking down full ~$200MM facilities, which they weren't doing a few years ago. I've heard their legacy mezzanine team is struggling though (LA/NYC offices)

Wanted to refresh this thread to see if any updates on the firm? Saw that Sun Life completed its buyout in Q1'26, so not sure if they're in full integration mode. More specifically, any insights into culture, comp, performance for their middle market / mezz team? Believe that team sits out of NYC / LA.
