Private Credit / Capital Markets? London Roles?

Hi all,

I’m starting my first full-time role in Fund Finance, primarily working on NAV facilities for PE secondaries funds. Frankly I am doing well, I’m on a six-figure base with a bonus expected in 2026 and performance-wise things are going well. That said, the work itself is not exactly what I want to be doing long term. Fund Finance, at least from my experience so far, is far less modeling and valuation-intensive than other credit roles, and from what I’ve read, can begin to pigeonhole you fairly early.

I’m hoping to get some perspective from people further along the path:

  1. What is your honest view on Fund Finance as a long-term career track?
  2. How realistic is it to move from a Fund Finance seat into a buy-side Private Credit or Capital Markets role? If possible, what typically makes someone competitive?
  3. A close friend suggested exploring Private Credit roles in EMEA (particularly London). I’ve always been interested in working abroad early in my career and wanted to understand:
    • How feasible is a lateral move from a U.S.-based Fund Finance role into EMEA Private Credit / Capital Markets?
    • How difficult is it to re-enter NYC finance after a few years overseas?

Appreciate any  advice and thank you for the time.
