Been seeing more of these "should we build our own exchange or use a clone script" conversations pop up here lately, so figured I'd share some perspective from the dev/business side rather than just the trading side.

The honest answer is it depends entirely on what you're optimizing for. You trade customization and long-term control for speed.

Custom development flips that trade-off. It costs more and takes longer, but you're not stuck with someone else's architecture when you need to scale, add a feature competitors don't have, or meet a specific regulatory requirement in your target market. For anything handling real user funds long-term, that flexibility usually pays for itself.
