How do you find and get a job in Equity Research?
Hi. I've been struggling to break into the ER industry and would love any help on figuring out how to make it.

I found this article helpful for myself. https://blogs.cfainstitute.org/investor/2013/09/12/advice-on-how-to-bec…
And the book "Best Practices for Equity Research ### Analysts: Essentials for Buy-Side and Sell-Side Analysts" by James Valentine is also a good start.
As you are starting to build sample reports I would suggest looking at US Small Cap consumer discretionary companies as they should have fairly straightforward financials to model out.
First, I would get my hands on as many pitches/reports as you can -- both sell side initiations and buy side pitches (see valueinvestorsclub com) to get a feel for thinking about stocks and can come off intelligent/interested in coffee chats (discussed below) and interviews.
Second, and most importantly, I would reach out to as many people as you can and ask to meet for coffee to chat about their job & the industry. More are willing to help than you'd think. Some of these people may end up asking you to forward them your resume so they can pass it onto HR. Make sure your resume speaks to equity research and shows that you are very interested in public equity investing/researching rather than investment banking or other alternatives. You can PM me for help.
As a side note --If you are in college, an internship will go a very long way in helping you land a FT offer.
