Allen Edmonds

Anybody buy any shoes during their recent sale?

I bought a few cedar hangers last night on sale, and got some really good deals at a Nordstrom Rack:

5th Ave Black Firenze Loafer Black Patriot Loafer Black Verona Loafer Black

For a hair over $400. Very rarely do I splurge like this, but I am on an AE kick! Plus the prices were great.

Does anybody own the New Haven shoes? They are like the 5th Avenues but have a rubber sole... I almost bought them in black and brown last night, but wasnt sure if I should just hold out for the Park Avenues. I like the rubber sole for durability, and I liked that they were 130 less than the Park Ave's lol. Also, I would be repping my home city. I was looking for work-horse shoes, if that makes sense.

What! lol

Too bad you can't see my ridiculous, ear-to-ear grin right now. Got me good, that was unexpected...

The Firenze's are nice though, come on!

Dude it was just their normal prices. It was the Nordstrom Rack though, if you've heard of it. The AE sale was the Rediscover America sale online, and I feel like a bum for posting it after it ended. I only bought the hangers there.

Seriously, check out a Nordstrom Rack if you can. Suits, etc are nothing too special but the shoe dept. is great. They had a ton of Allen Edmonds, to the point where I was choosing from like six pairs. They had a few pairs of Ferragmos, a few pairs of Alden, some nice Hugo Boss if you're into that, and a ton of Cole Haan. All of these are (seemingly) regularly stocked and consistently priced around $100-$120, with the Cole Haans around $60. Some of what I bought was on clearance though. This is based on three visits over the past few months..

I'll second the rack for stuff, though I never thought to look at shoes there. I'm suprised they are so inexpensive because just those pairs on their own are about what you paid for the lot if I read correctly. Deifnetly great shoes though, I love the edmonds I have.

This was my exact reason for buying. The 5th Ave's were the most expensive at $130, and then it got cheaper from there. They did have Park Ave's for $200, which I considered, but I liked the idea of getting the lot for the price of one pair. The Patriots and Veronas were 80 dollars on clearance! The Park Ave's are still a good deal at that price. All of their regular prices were cheaper than the online sale prices... Very good experience overall.

Ok, slight revision. The AE prices ranged from $100 - $150. Don't want to say $100- $120 when I bought $130 shoes, but the prices were sub $150 for all of the loafers and some of the lace-ups (5th ave, Hale, and some ugly ones) and the Park Ave's were $200. Many were priced at $120.

I have some Bradleys that I like a lot. I wear them too much so I need a couple other pairs to extend their lives. Will check out the rack, never seen one before.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

If you're set on the Park ave's, 200 is a good price. I think at the Nordstrom anniversary sale they went for 220ish.

^^ Word

I don't think you will have much luck online BSTN, the site seems to be geared toward women, and there are no shoes online.

Well done. You've inspired me to stop by Nordstrom Rack on my way home to see if I can snag some ridiculous deals like that. Those are all great purchases.

Park Ave. is preferable to the Fifth Ave. if you need to be ultra conservative, but there is basically no difference aside from a small bit of broguing. I would say if you're interviewing for your first analyst position, you should definitely go with the Park Aves because you don't want anything that stands out at all, but the Fifth Aves work in pretty much every other scenario.

So, all other things equal, go for the Park Aves. But in this situation you made the right call.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

Agreed with Otter above. Park Ave. > Fifth Ave. Park Ave's are perfect for everyone and anyone. Plus if you take care of them they will last you forever (albeit most Allen Edmonds do). I sold these in high school at a retail job and they are some of the best shoes ever made. Don't look for rubber soled shoes because you'll get shit for them... you're not an accountant. Plus once your Park Ave.'s are worn in properly, they (in my opionion) will fit better than any rubber soles.

Maximum effort.
