Based on the most helpful WSO content, women can wear black suits, including for internships. Here are some key points:
In summary, as a woman interning at a BB in New York, wearing a black suit is perfectly acceptable.

I think black suits are fine as long as you don't look like you're going to a funeral.
Some assholes might give you a hard time but most people understand interns might not have the budget to have different suits
Black suits are totally acceptable for women. Not the same rules as for men. Just put a white shirt underneath it
Black is acceptable for women. For men, don’t touch a black suit with a 10 ft pole — you’re not going to a funeral.
Maybe he wants to relive his prom, except this time he’ll be getting stuffed by an MD
For sure as a chick. Other than you might be hot in the summer sun.
Yes, you wear one to the funeral of your offer letter
You could but it is best avoided. It is probably fine as long as nobody is mistaking you for support staffers with an explicit dress code like security guards or limo drivers. Women are afforded more leeway with this than men.
My boss (COO) only wears black suits lmao. But, yeah, it’s only him and security that wear black. Everyone else is in blue if in a suit at all.
Yeah it was a bit confusing at first, I remember growing up seeing a lot of movies and tv shows with black suits and white shirt for “businessmen”
But as an intern, even as a man, people will not be too harsh on you for wearing a well cut black suit and an appropriate tie color
Saw some interns wearing brown and beige suits.. wtf are these kids doing.. rather see black than that
Beige suits look great for the Miami office haha.
But yeah, honestly people are overestimating how bad a black suit is for an intern.
Navy, Charcoal, Gray. Solid or striped (but if striped, make sure the stripes are subtle).
Won't be an issue if you're interning at Brookfield haha
No male in finance should ever wear a black suit in finance. Others will look down on that. It is fine for females… I don’t make the rules
Always stayed away from black suits - you end up looking like you're either at a funeral or part of waiting staff - or both. But for a girl I think it's more lenient. Would never recommend guys to get a black suit, just get navy/mid blue/grey and you'll be fine. In fact most people don't even care what you wear these days
One issue with black suits is that they are so heavily connoted funerals that nobody is actually buying them, as most people (at least in Europe) go to those events in dark grey or navy blue suits. Consequently, apart from getting one tailored, you will most likely be getting a very cheap-looking suit that looks awful.
