Charles tyrwhitt clothing: ok for summer analyst position or too pretentious?
The shirts look really nice. How good is the quality? Also, is it ok for a summer analyst position or wear?

Check out NoBo (No Boundaries), Faded Glory, and Cherokee. It is what I wore as a summer analyst.
Lol @ Ray Finkle. CT is definitely not too pretentious as long as you don't wear something too flamboyant.
Just bought a couple of shirts from CT, really like them so far- seems like good quality for the price, particularly when they are on sale... To be fair though I picked fairly conservative colors/patterns.
2 Simple and better options:
www.altonlane.com
or
Buy whatever spread collar dress shirts (often CT, BB, RL, etc) you can find at NYC thrift/consignment shops and take them to a Chinatown tailor for alterations (~$7 per shirt).
Those sales aren't really a discount... they come on sale often.
I agree with veritas.... altone lane and alexander west are pretty good and affordable... but takes a month...

If you get your measurements down correctly, you will never buy shirts anywhere else.
I just picked up about 8 for my internship and i figured i would try 2 pairs of pants (pants havent come in yet)
You can get some pretty good deals on good fabrics. Off the rack price for custom fit, can't really beat it. Plus you can customize the collar type, cuff type, collar stays, etc, etc
Just go to a dept. store and buy a few of the non-wrinkle dress shirts and make sure they fit. Try to get on sale and don't spend more than $35 a pop. Bottom line is you will never see a client - so it matters not if you have dashing attire. What's more, you will probably rip holes through your elbows and drip food on them from working so much and eating at your desk. Any summer analyst who buys a full wardrobe thinking they're some kind of baller now that they have an internship deserves to be laughed at. Perhaps I'll even "accidentally" spill coffee on you.
I didn't like the fit of CT. Sad because I loved the shirts. I went with BB non iron. I recommend j's post. Get something cheap, non iron and durable. Expensive shirts also tend to be delicate. I've torn holes in expensive shit and it sucks.
theyre good quality cotton, but the jermyn st collars are too old fashioned. the cuttaways are too extreme also.
so for a better collar i would go for a hawes and curtis warwick semi-cuttaway
Dont get swayed by the "discounts", CT and TM Lewin are ALWAYS discounted.
Personally, I find that CT/TM wrinkle too easily, and the sleeves are too wide for my taste on the double cuff shirts. I also am not a fan of the fabrics. I remember a lot of interns in my class had TML and it was obvious from a mile away.
Personally i like tailorstore.com, around 50 quid per shirt, the measurements were spot on for me first try so i was lucky, and theres a ton of options. As opposed to the CT/TML, the royal blue oxford also feels very comfortable and looks extremely good.
Thanks for the tip!!!!!! Really appreciate it!
CT Is perfectly fine for IB. Just don't get MD collars (white collars on a non-white shirt) or monogramming.
CT is fine but I personally like Thomas Pink better. If you're willing to pay $100-$150 for shirts, you can get great stuff from Pink. If not, CT is definitely a safe bet.
Where do you find Thomas Pink shirts for $100-150?
no, not too pretentious ... T&A, Zegna, Kiton(love them btw) and the likes might be somewhat pretentious for an intern ...
Aside from maybe T&A because they have distinctive collars, anyone that can tell you're wearing a Kiton shirt just by looking at it will not care that you are wearing a Kiton shirt.
CT and Pink are both fine. Just don't get loud patterns, else you will look like a douche no matter what brand of shirt you are wearing.
Was wondering if summer interns should wear shirts with or without cufflinks?
If you are in the US, without.
If you have ever looked at a free weight in your life, Brooks Brother's (non-iron) elbows will tear on you in about 2 months. I love CT shirts and I think the material is of higher quality.
No cufflinks, all their shirts give you the option of buttons. They have the double button, though, which is a nice touch.
CT shirts are not over the top and unless someone has a great/trained eye he/she probably won't be able to pick out a shirt by its maker anyway.
