College freshman help: I destroyed new Allen Edmonds loafers wearing them in awful weather?
Got a $400 pair of AEs over break for date parties, career fairs and presentations. Wore them last night for first time to event on campus: 20 degrees, sidewalks here are covered in rock salt and there were light flurries (although no real snow on the ground). Now the bottom sole and sole edge of these brand new loafers looks ruined. Is this normal or did I ruin them wearing them in crap conditions? I guess I don't get what you're supposed to do in cold weather locales -- hard salt / salt mixed with light slush is EVERYWHERE for like 3 months straight.
In the city, people often keep these at their desk and wear crappy pairs into the office during bad weather
I don't have the luxury to carry around extra pairs of shoes at college or store shoes where we'll be. I wore them Saturday night from dorm to uber, uber to event center. That was enough contact with elements to ruin new loafers? idk what to even do moving forward - I had no idea they'd be so freaking delicate.
Was simply letting you know what people often do in the city
At college, I'm with you, can't be lugging around two pairs. I would just buy a more affordable pair for days with crap weather. Polish and clean them as soon as you get home. Save the AEs for nicer days
Consider getting a rubber sole on the bottom (and perhaps wear a more formal shoe for career fairs).
Get those fuckers resoled with something rubber. Thats what I did on all my loafers and dress shoes. I too absolutely obliterated the soles of one of my favorite pairs of dress shoes (from a boutique store in Seville, not a name brand) and will never forgive myself.
