What’s an appropriate brand for a female first year analyst to have a bag from? Will be working at a BB. Not sure if there’s an implied rule depending on role but guessing black/simple bag is good. Would like insight on what kind of brands - something super classy like Chanel/Dior or something simpler like Longchamp. Thanks.

Keep it simple. Last year we had an SA that thought it was a good idea to take her heels off at a happy hour and sit there on a barstool in her bare feet. At that point, does it matter if the heels are high end or not? No, the bare feet is just plain bad and gross. It's your comportment and work that help you, not the Chanel bag. Make sense?

Yes, they might. Why risk? You might get a very conservative boss who might react negatively to flashy brands from someone who is yet to pay their dues. I would personally keep it simple and spend no more than a few hundred dollars on a bag, or even go for an Longchamp.

Full disclosure I am a guy. I have been in charge or recruiting at most firms I've been at (analyst/associate level) so I will provide an opinion and more than that an observation for this.

For the women who were hired the general reason for making the hiring call was based on the airport test and passing the basic technical type of interview. While I recognized the type of bags ladies carried, I can testify to the fact that no one made a hiring decision or a performance-based decision for pre-existing employees based on the bags or accessories that women carried themselves with. I see the conflict given that women are held to a higher level of scrutiny but I can honestly say men are generally not aware of the fashion statements women may want to make. A quick glance across this forum will show most guys are concerned with what watch or tie will tick off their MD rather than what merits they'll actually be judged on. So I hope as a conclusion, that as a woman in this industry, you don't spend too much time worrying about trivial shit like this and focus on the job where you male colleagues may not do such a good job doing so

The most important thing is that your handbag looks clean and professional. Beyond that the choice is yours and in my experience no one will judge you for wearing anything nice if you like to splurge on high-end accessories. Plus one of the few advantages of working in a male-dominated field is that, as TheBuellerBanker says, chances are nobody will know the brand of the bag you're carrying and even if they do they probably don't care that much.

As a general rule though, I would suggest to avoid flashy colours and large logos, and of course choose a format that is adapted to the situation (no tiny pouches or weird designs). Also, it depends very much on your personal style/wardrobe, and if you usually dress in plain clothing and neutral palettes you can generally afford to be more original with your handbag.
