Inherited a Vacheron Pocketwatch -- Tacky? Pretentious?
Hello all,
I have recently been fortunate enough to inherit a rather nice pocketwatch, 18k gold case, and is small. It is a vintage Vacheron, which was my great-grandfather's.
Obviously this would not be a daily-wearer. I have a stainless steel Tag I wear every day that is pretty small and discreet, but I would like to mix things up a little and wear a pocketwatch.
I am not necessarily thinking of wearing it with a waistcoat. Was thinking of looping it through my pant belt-loop and keeping it in the pocket. Would I look like a jackass?
Thanks in advance.
Based on previous WSO threads, here's what you need to know:
Sentimental Value: Inheriting a vintage Vacheron pocket watch, especially one that belonged to your great-grandfather, carries significant sentimental value. This can be a meaningful way to honor your family's history.
Occasional Wear: Given that it's an 18k gold case and a vintage piece, it's understandable that you wouldn't wear it daily. Using it for special occasions or when you want to make a unique statement can be a good approach.

That's a beautiful watch. It may be a little loud for the office, but anyone who appreciates watches will think it's awesome.
Normally when people ask about hesitating from wearing expensive watches, I tend to say to just go for it because the only people that'd notice that it's a nice watch are people who would appreciate it. In this case I think non watch people might notice it and think it's quirky. I'd say save it for special occassions.
Tackiest shit ive heard all year bro wtf
But respect the watch tho just keep it as a family jewel
Why would you even want a pocket watch in the first place?
Bro, you are not going to survive very long if you act this way in front of actual competent leader
That's awesome. I say keep it out of the office. But buy a waist coat and rock that at weddings and other special occasions.
