Interview Clothing?

Rising sophomore at west coast school here. Curious as to what kind of attire I should be wearing for interviews. I will be overhauling my wardrobe this summer, looking to get a new suit, ties, shoes, etc... Currently only have one black suit, 3 dress shirts which are my dad's old ones, and black shoes which are new and I will keep.

interested in hearing if there's a difference in expectations for west coast vs. NY, as I've notices CA offices have very chill attire.

Especially curious as to what color suit I should wear. I've heard from some that black suits are no-go, while others say it's fine for SA interviews. If I do need navy blue, I'd need brown shoes right? (not the most fashion savvy).

Lastly, what kind of tie is suitable. I know bright ties are usually not it, so what color would go with a white or light grey shirt. Also, is cologne the move or is it better to not wear. i'm an asian kid so bod odor is not an issue lmao.

Rule of thumb is always better to be formal. Just get a good fitting navy suit, black shoes done.
