London Interns (and ex-interns): Where do you get your dress shirts, pants and suits from?
Looking to upgrade my wardrobe, but I’m on an intern budget. What places would you recommend to pick up a few nice dress shirts, some pants and maybe 1-2 suits (or just suit jackets) from? Is there any time in particular that have really great deals (I can’t wait until Christmas). If so, I’ll hold off from buying anything now if good prices are just around the corner. Or should I just be watching some brands in particular to see if their products ever go on sale?
Hawes and Curtis, Charles Tyrwhitt are both good imo.
Charles Tyrwhitt definitely the best and most accommodating from shirts, jumpers and suits. They always have discounts and do regular multi buys where you can get 4 shirts for £100. I recently picked up some shirts that were originally £65 for £29, they do this deal on loads of them. They should offer some student discount too. I'm a big fan of TM Lewin but since COVID they went all online - they do sales around Black Friday to Xmas period, I once got a suit with 50% discount. H&C I recommend for shirts, like CT they do some good discounts but generally slightly more expensive, but you can still get a nice white/blue shirt for £40 at the right time. I can't speak for their suits, but I have heard their cut is slightly baggier and more uncomfortable as opposed to CT. If you want cheaper, good quality shirts, Marks and Spencer is also quite good. Lastly, I like Reiss for jumpers but I think they're becoming more and more of a rip off, especially for the quality.
Largely agree.
Although Reiss stuff is nice as long as you don’t look at the price tag, and my H&C suits feel alright.
Charles Tyrwhitt, John Lewis
Been a loyal Charles Tyrwhitt customer since my gap year job 10 years ago - try to get shirts in some kind of sale and you'll probably manage 4 for £110ish. Be careful if you're on the svelte/athletic side like I am as their slimmest cut now is still pretty baggy
I agree, extra slim is the way to go. I've seen some comments on similar threads where they said the royal Oxford shirt was the best one - highly recommend.
