Need a New Suit For Internships
What's up, I am currently in search of a new suit to get for potential summer internships/interviews b/c I am sick of wearing my dad's old suits from the 90s. I am 6'1 and 182lbs with an athletic build. I just got measured at a local men's Wearhouse with my chest - 40 and 42 long with a modern or slim fit, the shirt fit is 16/34-35, and my pants are a 32/34 waist and 32-34 inseam. I want to keep the total price under $450 USD. I have a fair complexion and ginger hair, so I was looking at a darker blue or darker grey, like charcoal. It seems like Charles Tyrwhitt has good options. The only shops close to me are one very high-end, a Banana Republic or Men's Wearhouse, so I am mainly considering an online purchase. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks.

I got a fully tailored suit from suit supply for $800 all in. Best fitting suit I’ve had, much better than the Express suit I wore for interviews.
I would either flex up your budget to get something tailored that you can wear through your early years in finance or flex down and buy something off the rack that’s cheaper but might not fit as well. Go for dark navy or dark gray it’s more versatile than modern bright blue shades.
Aight bet I'll check it out, I'd rather have something that'll last and fit better than off the rack anyways.
I 100% back the suit supply comment - I always use them, but for your price point that's probably out of your range. You want a more tailored suit with worse fabric rather than a nice fabric suit with moderate tailoring. I'd stick to the mens warehouse type stores until your price range can move up - they're still fine suits that look more expensive than they are if you get it well tailored
What city are you in? I have more of an "athletic" build and Zenga (the cheaper version - there's two types from my understanding) and also Hugo Boss (again, from what I've seen there's two tiers) fit pretty decent no tailoring (which, will still need tailoring).
If you're near New York (assuming Northwest), hit a Norstrom Rack (or a couple of them - each is gonna be hit or miss) and then make sure to have at least ONE baller suit just in-case have to hit that quasi high-profile dinner / event, but a Men's Warehouse should have some brands w/Italian cut suit, the reps there gonna know as well which brands better suited suited for body types etc.
Second the flex up/down logic tree above.
Flex up: get measured in person the first time, that’s the only real advice I’d give. If you’re going to flex up, you need to spend at least 800-1000 to make it worth your while. IMO this isn’t necessary for entry level and you’re better off keeping cash on hand for actual necessary expenses like a plane ticket to an interview etc.
Flex down: shop a JosABank sale and have them tailor it a bit for you. And there’s always the no name local suit shops where you’ll have to do some digging but they sometimes have something decent. There’s also consignment, eBay, and clothes sharing apps if you’re so inclined. These options aren’t fancy but after you get your first paycheck you can trade up.
To be honest though, you just need to look crisp and well put together. I started off broke as a joke, so I’d take a walk around Hermes and Zegna stores and then go to the Century21 or Macy’s and try to find that one item that kind of sort of matched the vibe…..you only need a couple of articles of clothing to make it through the interviews and get hired. Then you reinvest your first paycheck or two into decent stuff and no one is the wiser.
Indochino for custom suits. I’m also 6’2, but I’m a little skinnier than you are. Folks like us need custom suits or else we look like that guy from Channel5 on YouTube.
Quality control is a little worse than suitsupply, but still really good and my dress shirts/suits have all held up nicely. You can do the measurements yourself, but I booked an appointment at a showroom and they did everything from the measurements to helping me pick out fabrics etc.
Usually cheaper than suitsupply too.
