Pinstripe Shirts

Stupid question I know, but it seems like pinstripe shirts are going out of style in the workplace. Is this true? I'm thinking of french cuff, white collar with vertical stripes i.e. gray or blue?

Are these type of shirts still acceptable?

People still wear them at more senior levels. I personally don't think they look that great...

Apparently you have to wear a poorly fitting polyester shirt from Wal-Mart and intentionally dress worse than the MD. God forbid that you accidentally spend $10 more than the MD if you join him for lunch!

I have plenty of shirts with stripes/patterns on them, I think they're fine. I would wear a solid tie if you do though.

White collar contrast shirt does come across as a little douchey, so I only have a couple of those. Personally, I prefer a light blue (very light) if you go that route.

Just don't wear suspenders, a bow tie, or a pocket square and you should be fine.

I thought pocket squares were OK as long as they're conservative i.e. solid white.

What are your peers wearing? As long as you don't stick out like a sore thumb you should be fine wearing the initially mentioned shirt.

Personally I think pinstripes + FC + white collar is a bit over the top, but if you can rock it, go for it. There is this nice rule of dressing up and then removing one thing (probably not your underwear) to avoid being accessorized like a christmas tree. So FC, pocket square, suspenders etc. might be fine on their own, but probably not all together (unless you're 80 like mentioned above).

I think the checkered look works better for younger guys (as compared to the pinstripe for older generations). Personally, I think a pinstriped shirt can be really tacky looking if its not fitted properly or doesn't have the right colors. But i'm extremely picky

Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis - when I was dead broke man I couldn't picture this

True, pinstripe can go very wrong. Matt Miller on Bloomberg always shocks me with his color combinations.

I think my next few shirts will simply be solid and then I'll eventually expand outward--maybe.
