Rolex appropriate for post-MBA PE Associate?
Starting in a MM PE shop soon (I interned there last year).
I’m a big watch guy. As a late-20s guy, and post MBA associate, what are your thoughts on wearing a stainless Datejust?

No one will give a shit
SS DJ should be fine - it's pretty tame compared to a lot of other models. You looking at oyster bracelet or jingly-jangly-jubilee? I'd say smooth bezel + oyster bracelet would be the most understated.
I have a fluted bezel, on jubilee haha
OP that should really not be a problem at all but if you feel uncomfortable just wear it on weekends? Don’t see why you wouldn’t just wear it to the office though if I’m honest, it’s a pretty no flashy watch
Not a big deal, I’ve seen plenty of banking analysts wear DJs and Subs and no one cares. Maybe avoid wearing something like a rose gold Yacht-Master but otherwise rock it and enjoy.
Literally just bought that watch you said not to wear (not the full everose though, I’m not that baller) and I’ll wear it to work everyday. my MD’s, knowing I’m a watch guy, who heard I bought it called me to talk about what a great pick up it was. I don’t know where you guys all work, but where I am, unless you are rocking an iced out AP or a Nautilus or an RM, nobody gives one fuck. A brand new datejust 41mm with jubilee and fluted bezel and taxes is going to get you pretty close to the price of these two tone pieces anyway, not to mention most can be had below MSRP.
TLDR: nobody cares regardless, and if they do, you should work elsewhere
Finbrah why the lies? We all know you are rocking a brietling. You should head over to the bathroom and jerk it out to the yacht master 5000, oh wait you did that this morning.
Send it buddy. You worked hard so far in your career, if you wanna rock it, I think you have the green light.
I bought a SD43, 14060M, and 116710 -- 3rd yr analyst. No one gives a fuck as long as you sheathe it from your MDs. Stainless DJ is the most classic piece out there IMO - i like the 1601 and 1603 personally. I don't rock the DJ because I cant get into swanky places with my PJs on unless I have an archie luxury fuck you piece. Keep your spending habits under wraps from the gf though, mine left me for TPG healthcare when we promised we'd both hit associate at the same time =-( ... it was either that or my tinder account.
Can I ask if you still work in PubFin? Assuming at JPM? I am at a different but similar BB as a 1st year and was wondering what comp is like ballpark.. can pm if youd like
Yeah you're fine.
I think you're fine. That model is pretty subdued and appropriate for most offices/roles.
Dude you're WFH, buy the watch. If you're worried about it this is actually a great time to get it so you can play it off as always having had it or whatever when you do get back to the office. In non-covid times, especially in PE, no one cares. Don't buy an iced out AP or RM obviously but a stainless steel DJ is super common and won't be weird at all
You just dropped >$200k on two years of school, no one is going to give a shit about the few incremental $k on a watch. That’s also a reasonable time to actually get a nice watch anyways
I think it's totally acceptable although maybe consider other brands. Lots of amazing watches in that price range.
get a Richard Mille or GTFO
