Should I buy Cologne for this summer or stick with scented deodorant?

I only have one full suit and a semi-formal jacket for my summer internship. I know it's going to be incredibly hot, and I'm a profuse sweater. I might have to rewear my jacket, as I've been told to bring it in every day just in case, but it's not always necessary. My dad suggested spraying a light-smelling cologne before work. Before I buy any, I wanted to check if it's okay for interns to wear cologne. I feel this question is too trivial to ask an analyst. Is it acceptable to use a light spray of cologne, or should I stick with scented deodorant? I plan to shower every day, of course.

if you want to become the youngest md at your firm you MUST never wear deodorant

Get a near prescription strength deodorant / anti-perspirant, such as Certain Dri. Then get a neutral cologne and use one spray for the office (something like Bleu de Chanel or look at some of the cologne threads in this forum). Also keep a normal anti-perspirant deodorant in your desk as a back-up.

To keep your jackets smelling good, I'd recommend buying a steamer and cedar hanging blocks. Steam the jacket every now and then to remove wrinkles and a steamer kills something like ~95% of germs, which should keep the jacket smelling fairly good. The Cedar blocks in your closet will prevent your clothes from getting musty and will keep everything smelling fresh.

In total this should cost something similar to the below:

  • Certain Dri - $6
  • Cologne - ~$100 depending on brand and size. Can be much cheaper or more expensive
  • Steamer - $50 - $100 depending on brand
  • Cedar Hanging Blocks - ~$20

You should never steam a jacket. Ruins all of the shaping work the tailor put into it. It’s dry clean only for a reason. Unless you want a floppy suit.
