Sneakers to work in business casual?
Newer to NYC. I figured people would be more dressy on the east coast but found actually the opposite and see a lot of sneakers at work instead of the usual black or brown leathers. By sneakers I mean nicer sneakers and not weird flashy club sneakers but nonetheless.
Is this normal for a business casual environment in NYC? Not complaining, legitimately asking what is considered work appropriate up here before I show up being "that guy".
Normal but I don’t rock em not a huge fan of the look
Yes, you will be oak rocking All birds most of the time.
Allbirds seem to be a favorite for younger MDs. Other than that I'm a big fan of lower-key white sneakers... Nike Killshot or Nike Court line if you want cheaper, I see some Oliver Cabell lows around quite a bit too.
My MD wears white Nike air max 90s. Have also seen some VPs rock white AF1s
You don't want to mess with someone with black Air Force Ones. Will not explain.
I don't like the look but in Europe tons of people in professional services walk around with white sneakers.
Will undoubtedly get MS for this but oh well.
I definitely judge sneaker to office people, unless they are savant tech bankers.
When I worked in San Francisco I wore black leather sneakers to the office. My MD wore All Birds. In NYC now my office is in fact a bit more formal, so I just wear loafers or Chelsea boots. Can't be bothered with tying laces anymore.
On Cloud makes some nice office appropriate sneakers as well
