Suit Brands NYC

For those of you at firms wearing suits daily, what brands do you wear? I'm looking for nice suits that will last more than a year or two of consistent wear (and no, I'm not weairng super 160s wool). Anybody have any recommendations for nice suits in the $2k range for an associate/VP? Bonus points if in NYC

Zegna has some good, durable fabrics that last a while, even with heavily travel and use. A little pricey but you can get good deals if you shop around at department stores (I got mine for ~$1.5k or so).

The cheaper RLPL line is solid too. Don’t get the more expensive ones that cost $3-4k+ as they’re too delicate but the ones that are ~$1.5-2k are solid for daily work suits. Can get good deals around the holidays and at big department stores.

I haven’t bought a new Brooks Brothers suit in 10 years but at one point they made excellent, durable workhorse suits (their shirts were another story lol).

Suitsupply is good for burner suits. Not the best quality but not very expensive either so nbd if they wear out.

Isn’t suit supply still like ~$800-$1k suits ? Maybe I’m just cheap but that still sounds like too much to be a burner but that’s just me

Wow how common is this today? I haven’t heard of any PE firms requiring this other than like CD&R maybe

I mean this honestly...I'd have to make like...USD 500k a year to be at a point where I'd spend $2k on a suit and not have it feel like an unreasonable expense.

I am just too satisfied with Woodbury Commons and getting suits from the Theory Outlet, or any major suit brand outlet.

Mind you, I'd pay $2k for a dope overcoat at much lower comp (and have lol).

What are people wearing? McDermott has on a cashmere sport coat, wool trousers, a silk tie, Hermès. Farrell is wearing a cashmere vest, leather shoes, wool cavalry twill trousers, Garrick Anderson. I’m wearing a wool suit by Armani, shoes by Allen-Edmonds, pocket square by Brooks Brothers. Someone else has on a suit tailored by Anderson and Sheppard. Someone who looks like Todd Lauder, and may in fact be, gives thumbs-up from across the room, etc., etc.

In NYC the answer is to find a good tailor and that’s really it.

Yes. It is odd to even hear the term suit brand unless someone is discussing a ready to wear collection like Brioni, Canali, Kiton etc... I think people not acclimated to tailoring apply a retail consumer perspective to it without understanding this isn't where you find a quality suit unless you shop at the top of the market. For everyone else Suit Supply, Boggi Milano, Proper Cloth (and many others) are the best type of alternative to simply finding a good tailor and getting a suit made.
