I've seen people who leave the last sleeve button on a suit open. That seems like a pretty douchebag move in the office, but I suppose it could be useful at the club or whatever for attracting chicks with an attention to detail in their gold digging operations. Thoughts on the practice? Incidentally, when I was searching for a picture for the post a lot of gay stuff came up for some reason. Please factor that into your analysis.

Gotta admit, didn't even know there were suits that had actual buttons down there around the sleeves...
I've never heard of the sleeve button being left undone. Did some idiot get his sleeve buttons confused with the main buttons on his coat and just undo all of the bottom ones? Or is it supposed to symbolize that you have a nice/custom suit with functional cuff buttons?
I leave mine buttoned. Seems douchey to draw attention in that manner. Maybe if I was a VP or MD though...

This will look douchey around the office. Anyone that doesn't know why it's unbuttoned will think you lost a button on your suit, and anyone who knows why it's unbuttoned will think you're being flashy and obnoxious.
Leave them buttoned at the office or you will look like a clown. One guy undoes his where I work, but he also fails to: tie his tie down to his belt, button his top button on his shirt, pull his tie up to his collar, and keep his socks pulled up. He also wears peak lapels on his coats, despite being under the age of 55 and having no gray hair, wears very ostentatious pocket squares, and aspires to own a watch the size of a hockey puck. Don't do it.
I don't understand, trying to be creative with your office attire = douchey? That doesn't make sense to me, but I'm still in school so idk. I feel like it would be more "how" you wear it - i.e. if the guy is a douche, it'd definitely come off super douchey, but if he's a nice guy that just likes to be an individual, idk why anyone else should care.

I leave it unbuttoned most of the time. And why not? It's a little bit of fun you can get away with in an otherwise conservative environment. Like colorful socks.
Anecdotally, I've noticed many other people doing this as well.
As I understand it, functional buttons are a sign of a high-quality suit (though that's not to say all quality suits have them or that having them automatically means it's a nice suit). As such, one of the main ideas of leaving them un-buttoned is to let people know it's good suit.
My personal opinion is that while some people can certainly pull it off, it does look a little douchey to do it (especially at work where you're in a professional setting). Reminds of people who wear their tie backwards so they can show off the brand name.

They don't actually phyiscally tie their tie so it's backwards like it's facing out but rather it's tied normally they just "flip it" (like when they sit down for a meeting) so you can see the brand name
It's supposed to signify you have a high end suit. Now that everyone and their brother is getting shit MTM off the Internet it is a "cool" thing to do.
In reality functional buttholes just make tailoring the suit more difficult if it needs it. Keep it buttoned and look for other ways to be unique.
Why would you ever need to tailor that part of the sleeves once the suit is finished???
Ironically, my cheapest blazer has some working sleeve button holes. If you look closely, though, you see that these are fugly machine made button holes, which should not be showcased. I think leaving the sleeve buttons open looks affected, a look I definitely want to avoid. I'd also say it is very uncommon for chicks to know it. Nowadays it's rather an iGent secret code, yet another reason why to avoid it.
