Completely depends on the culture, you just have to look around and see what others are wearing. I don't know much about NYC, but I assume it's not nearly as "okay" as West Coast. This probably goes without saying, but whatever you do, do NOT wear the big pony polos. I have a couple..but I wouldn't even think about wearing them within a mile of professional workplace.
Get a gauge of what the office dress code is like. Be conservative first and just stick with standard dress shirt. You can wear polos/shorts/etc. on the weekends (generally anyway - ask a colleague).
Hey what's up everyone. I'm looking at an internship in the summer so I have no idea about the Southeastern office culture. I was asking because I have a Polo gift card that I wanted to use on my first office wardrobe.
I wouldn't recommend wearing a shirt with a logo. Maybe on Fridays...

What do you think about wearing shirts to work with logos (for example, Lacoste or Ralph Lauren) compared to nice, non-branded shirts? Is it tacky/unprofessional do you think?

Your socks should contrast with your pants. You're welcome.
Ralph Lauren Black Label/Purple Label doesn't have the logo on its shirts, if you insist on wearing RL that is. ;)
I would not wear their dress shirts. They are great for casual shirts though but they are not professional enough.
