A lot of times I'll wear a Henly with boots. Usually layer some sort of jacket on top as well depending on the weather. Occasionally will go with a button down.
I usually wear a casual button down shirt and casual loafers with jeans, assuming they're halfway decent jeans. If they're not halfway decent jeans I'm usually on a motorcycle and dressed accordingly(boots, thick leather jacket etc).
Either way you need to act as if you're always in the game from the moment you step out your door.
I prefer dark fitted v-necks, but depends on the weather and occasion. I think button down shirts are tacky and not stylish nowadays, even at bars/clubs.
