What's the scoop on buying ties on eBay?

There's got to be some kind of catch here. Unless "pre-owned" means "really noticeably poor," why would there be any reason not to get ties on eBay? I only have a few I bought in high school and they're from the local Kohl's / WalMart...

Hermes ties for $7-20?

$100 for all of this..

Isn't this kind of ridiculous? 300 ties for $40 + 33 shipping; less than 25 cents for one tie... and they say "some great designer brands included."

Many of them are older/vintage

You definitely have to look at the sellers reputation. Unless its a brand spanking new Hermes for $20 its probably okay. Ties lose alot of their resale value quickly

Also a reason for the price - the ties in the second one you sent are horrible. I do not consider myself particularly well-dressed or fashionable, but you could not pay me to wear any of the ties in that picture.

You can definitely get good deals on ties though - use Style Forum. I've gotten stuff of that before and it's fantastic. I think it must consist of lots of people who work in retail and just get to buy extra stuff that doesn't sell in their stores for almost nothing, and they then go around and sell them online and make money on the side off of it. Style Forum has just about any tie you could ask for.

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

honestly dont buy high end luxury fashion on ebay (most of the time its fake, yeah you wont notice but still)

if you want to rock hermes or the likes you go to their store and buy it there. if thats too expensive then dont buy it at all.

That's not necessarily true, you just need to do some background research into who you're buying it from. I've used eBay for a few things and they've all been great purchases. I think higher profile items like Hermes, Gucci, Ferragamo, all the brands that are well known (the kinds of brands sold at Duty Free shops in nice airports) probably are more likely to be fake

But if you're looking for something that is a lesser known brand, maybe like Alexander Olch or something like that, then you're probably safe. Disclosure: that was just the first brand that came to mind when thinking of more expensive but more random ties, I definitely don't advocate buying or wearing those ties for work at all.
