Why did Patagonia stop doing branded vest for IBs?
When I first started at my first firm EVERYONE could get a hold of a Patagonia 'Better Sweater' vest with branding on, it was the in thing and I know that despite Patagonia being a hipster, eco, brand with more love for ESG factors than a professor at Wharton, they must've loved the business? Why did they suddenly cut us off?
Because financial services firms go against their values. Plain and simple. They are ok with forgoing the revenue if it means a stronger brand conviction with their target customers.
I touched upon it there, but who is the key demographic for Patagonia? Most smelly tree-huggers surely don't have the funds to throw $100 at a vest?
Outdoorsy millenials. They don’t just sell vests, they sell lots of outdoor gear.
Wrong....new generation of kids wants to be green and anti-capitalist while using a $2,000 mac computer, driving a Tesla, and living in a nice house. That is exactly who buys $100 eco/socially friendly vests to wash themselves of their obviously hypocritical sins.

Patagonia is no different than the latte sipping liberals in park slope and upper west side that have BLM signs in front of their brownstones but send their kids to schools with all white kids
I plan to send my kids to my alma mater (Eton) so they don't have to rub shoulders with the rednecks and cowboys of the wild west in Andover and Exeter.
