Classification of Forums

WallStreetOasis:

I really don't think you need to further classify the forums into sub-forums (such as industy specific, etc.) There are simply not enough categories to really make this feature useful. I know it is a crazy little detail, but we are bankers here ...

I'm going to respectfully disagree on this one. Agreed that the vast majority of questions get dumped into the investment banking category, but I think segmentation in the forums still provides better answers on the whole (e.g., I check the private equity and consulting forums much more often than other forums given my work experience in the two industries).

CompBanker, I think you mean the Site Specific, Industry Specific, Related Topic Containers I added to hold different types of forums. I know for a regular user like you this probably doesn't help much (and might be annoying) -- but for someone new to the site, I think grouping all of the industry specific forums into 1 container is actually slightly helpful (just from a visual/organizational standpoint). I think when we add more categories (probably at some point) it will be even more relevant.

hopefully it doesn't insult your intelligence too much :) ...

Thanks, Pat

I disagree - there are perhaps two handfuls of ppl here with actual on-the-job experience. I believe we should get rid of PE and HF etc specific forums, as ppl cannot be bothered to click everytime to check out different forums. Group them together and get discussion going.

If you want to see a listing of all recent posts, all you have to do is click on "Recent Posts" on the navigation bar.

I am making a push to get more professionals from HF and PE on here so having this categorization I think will be helpful in the long-run.

Over the next few months you should see activity pick up in all of the forums.

I will also be giving the most mature, knowledgeable users Certification status on the site which will tag them with a star next to their username when they post (hopefully by the end of this week that will be done).

All great changes WallStreetOasis. We definitely look forward to them.

smuguy -- I was referring to the new, more generic groupings "Site Specific", "Industry Specific", etc. I definitely would not do away with the next sub-tier.

Also, I'd say there are quite a number of people on this forum with experience. I think the problem is, experience doesn't always mean you give good advice.

Honestly i feel that breaking the S&T Forum into Equities/Fixed Income/Other would be helpful.
