How about an Entrepreneurship forum?

I know The Other Road is meant to include Entrepreneurship discussions, but the entrepreneurial posts tend to get lost in the mix between the posts around big 4, F500 jobs, and other miscellaneous posts. I'm sure plenty of folks in IB, PE, AM, and CF have tinkered with the idea of starting their own business so it would be nice to have an area solely dedicated to that topic.

Running your own business sucks ass. All you are doing is trading in one boss for 1,000 and don't even get me started on waking up each and every day in the red until sales are made. I've never understood the whole 'start-up' craze either because they have long hours, inadequate resources, a high failure rate and generally pay below market wages.

Making yourself valuable to a well established company is probably a more lucrative move.

I see where you're coming from but how many people on the Forbes list got to where they are by taking a job with a well established company?

How many people make a record that goes platinum?

I would be curious to read about people who were working somewhere and then had the opportunity to jump ship and go out on their own. By and large I think its a lot like breaking into BB finance, you get into an amazing school and work your ass off, if it happens, great. If not, you don't care and are on to the next.

One man's opinion. It could also be viewed as an exciting chance to make your mark as an individual and be responsible for providing the world a novel, useful, or even critical technology or product that can change and improve lives and make the world a better place.

Obviously the above is at the opposite end of the spectrum from what you wrote. But somewhere in between doesn't sound half bad.

Regardless of how it is viewed, though, I'd argue you learn more about what makes businesses tick by running your own startup for a year than you would in five years of ER or M&A or anything else.

I think the better "start your own" opportunities present themselves naturally. My overall point was a dose of reality given the "start-up" craze. Though I think the OP and I are on the same page, it would be interesting to see what people come up with or how they succeeded or failed in the endeavor.

That forum would be a great add to the site.

Couldn't agree more.

my 2 cents: if this comment makes your lizard brain say "good point, maybe i shouldn't be an entrepreneur" - then maybe you're not cut out for it, at least for now.

how to break past this point? read The Dip by Seth Godin (or is it Lynchpin? either are good short reads) and definitely read The War of Art by Pressfield.

if this comment makes you say "f that, i know i have a great idea that i could see through to the finish line" then go for it
