Search Feature

Perhaps I'm being an idiot; if so, please do not hesitate to inform me as such. Regardless, while I much prefer the google search module to the previous one, I have a small gripe. I recently searched "Fannie," hoping to find the most recent discussion of the troubled government sponsored lender. I had tons of results for my search, but the vast majority were from the "newswire," not the forums.

Is there a way to sort by area (eg: Forum, News, etc.) so that I don't have to examine the URL of each result to make sure that I am clicking on a thread?

I wasn't a fan of the last version of the search function, but the new Google Custom Search seems to be even worse. Today I tried to search "energy investment banking" to find some old threads I remember reading, and it kept bringing up random threads just because a forum topic on the side had the word "energy" in it - the thread itself had nothing to do with energy. On top of this, I never found any of the threads I was looking for.

This is very frustrating, because there are some fantastic threads floating out there from a year or two back that just seem to have evaporated.

SBE, sorry to hear that...the module you are complaining about uses Google's Search technology which is kind of considered the gold standard for search. Maybe try search for something more specific in those threads that were so amazing like a phrase or something less generic than "investment banking" and energy.

Do you remember anything more specific about these threads? was a specific city or company discussed?

hmmm, looks like Google might be indexing the actual ads of itself into the search results. for example, i noticed a result that came up a lot is FRS energy so I did a search with that and it happens to be an ad but ot sure why it is coming up in the search. I'll look into it.

The FRS energy one is a perfect example of what's going on. I did a search for some old threads on energy banking, went through about 20 threads, and didn't find a few of the threads I was looking for.

Another example is when I went to search for a thread on Harris Williams. I searched for "Harris Williams" and only 5 threads came up, not including the one I remember reading that was actually titled Harris Williams. I ended up doing a normal Google search, and that particular thread came up on the 4th or 5th page, which is puzzling.

It's as if the new search engine on this site is not including a ton of past threads, because many more threads should be showing up.
