The Best WSO Threads & Blogs

To help clean up Forum Topics and Blog posts, we have now created a new WSO Highest Ranked content (blogs & forum posts) which you can get to by clicking "Rank" in the Forum Topics block...or here: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/highest-ranked-discussions

You may notice that we no longer have the 5-banana ranking system in forum topics or blog posts. We found that many more people are using SBs and MSs and many people do not bother to rank the threads, so we feel like a better measure of a threads quality was the SBs and MSs it receives (among other things).

Again, it is not perfect (no ranking system is), but if you look at the threads and blog posts that floated to the top, it definitely seems to have done a decent job at bringing out some of the best content.

One downfall to this system was that with less wso credits before (where was QE2 in 2006?!), some of the older threads that are very valuable were unfairly penalized. As a result of that we will be going through some older threads and giving them a bit of a boost over the next few weeks so that they are in the first few pages like they should be...we'll also be bumping some threads that shoudl not be there down.

Thanks, Patrick

Does this mean you'll be going back and giving silver bananas to posts from the first 3/4 years before WSO introduced SBs? If so, I very much approve! I probably have a couple thousand posts from that timeframe.

Also, I think you need to re-jigger your WSO ranking criteria. It seems that silver bananas given to the initial poster carry 90+% of the weight for the ranking. Silver bananas given for responses don't appear to be taken into consideration or even hold much weight. For example, my "Ask CompBanker" thread has a score of 7.5 because there are only 7 SBs in the initial post, despite a large set of SBs awarded for subsequent posts. Something to consider.

Comp, you are right...as of now, it is a bit simplistic and we do need to go back and give some of the older helpful posts some SB love.

We had some issues getting the SBs aggregated from the threads and thought that the original post is still a pretty good / accurate representation of the quality of the thread. Granted, for Q&A threads it may underweight them if SBs are given throughout, but if you think about it, this also prevents the political threads from rising to the top since there are a lot of SBs given out there too...

And your Ask Compbanker thread IS still on the first page of the all time greatest threads in our 6+ year history :-)
