WSO Annual Posters Awards

Would it be possible for WSO to implement an annual awards event recognizing outstanding/terrible posters? Just start threads every year for users to nominate other users for certain categories, and set up a poll with the top nominees to decide winners. This has been very successful in other forums, and I think would be interesting here.

I think you had it right after the first sentence - a WSO awards banquet sounds hilarious.

most likely never to break in to finance, most likely to become a BSD, most SBs received, most SBs received on a single thread, funniest troll, most politically incorrect, worst thread, best thread, etc.... yeah.... this is a good idea for sure

This sounds like an interesting idea, I'd support it! Need to find a way to embed the awards in a user's profile for extra prestige!

Possible awards.

Most Thought Provoking Post King of the Monkey Trainers (most helpful to new monkeys) Best Rant of the Year Troll of the Year Top post about the Culture of Wall Street (kind of like a Monkey Business type thing--what working on WS is really like) Most Bananas in a year Most Silver Bananas in a Year Most Monkey Shits of the year WSO poster of the year (like Best Actor) Best WSO Thread of the year Best Trading Thread of the year Best Banking Thread of the year Craziest true story---not really about posters, but it would be nice to honor the Jeffrrey Chiang or KPMG moments that happen every year.

I figure 5 nominations for each category. Users send all their votes in at once using PM.

For trophies, we can get actual silver bananas. Shouldn't be too expensive to make silver banana trophies

Yeah, we only need to make two stops: The Porn shop and Home Depot to get paint

Gekko,

2 Questions - Is there a nominating committee for the more opinionated awards catagories and what voting system are we using? Are we taking a SAG/Oscars approach? Are we doing Every User has 1 vote? Need more details as I'm interested in this.

Happy,

Most Bananas and Most SBs in a year are like the "Technical" awards at the Oscars. They don't count when it really matters.

J/K... we all know you are gonna take those two with ease!

I think people making suggestions and a nominating committee selecting the five choices is important (would probably be comprised of 10-20 people) after that, any registered user can vote. Happy,

People make nominations to a nominating committee (comprised of 10-20 top posters). After that anyone can cast a vote.

SBs, Bananas, quality of posts,whatever.....I think everyone knows who should be on the committee, but leave it up to Patrick and ANT to make the final decision.

In addition to the panel discussing amongst themselves, ordinary users may post suggestions to the panel. Once the panel decides on the top5 for each category, everyone gets 1 vote regardless of if you are on the panel. Lets face it, being on the panel basically means you are nominated for at least 1 or 2 awards.

I suggest the SB leaders, not overall nanner leaders. Quality, not quantity :)
