1st Year Salary Expectations?
Looking to ballpark an expected salary as I'm looking to move to a SM HF down the road. Targeting traditional value shops, tiger cubs, hopefully $5bil+ AUM. How might comp breakdown work (base vs bonus, how bonus discretion works, etc). Traditional background two years banking and will do two more at a MF. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Salaries are generally 125-200k and bonuses are highly variable. At a $5B+ HF I'd guess $150+250K first year but again its almost impossible to put a fine point on it. It could be 125+125 to 200+750
Understand that bonuses are highly variable but where would u say it caps out for a decent analyst at that fund size?
There are no caps on analyst bonuses. I've seen $2-3M bonuses. Over a long period of time, I'd say the average analyst at the average fund is taking home $450-$750K/yr (some years that are much much better, some that are worse) - to be clear this is at the AVERAGE fund before anyone has a melt down
Thank u! Are large bonuses like that also discretionary or are they usually tied to a specific formula ?
The biggest bonuses usually come for analysts that make partner, which means its formulaic. You get a % of firm P&L...typically a single digit %. At places like Viking though I believe it is % of your own P&L
