Alternatives among LO
Some LO firms run alternative L/S strategies. Are any worth mentioning in that good comp, culture, solid AuM etc.?

Lol, not even a dozen LO run LS strats on scale. Not talking platforms but likes of BlackRock with better comp.
Off the top of my head Wellington, BlackRock, Baron (pretty sure), and Alger (although the culture at Alger is apparently awful). I don't know how productive this list will be though or what the purpose is.
A lot of AM firms that run L/S strategies, the strategies tend to be very different than true HF investing and are mostly LO products with dressings to charge a higher fee. That said there are a few select firms that are great investors and may have such a strategy as well, but also a lot of these firms just have centralized research functions so its not always a separate team that runs the fund. Basically, if you want to do L/S investing, going after AM firms that have a few of these products is not a good strategy imo.
