Any hedgies going to this big event at Cipriani 42nd tonight? (Back)
15th Annual New York Open Your Heart to the Children Benefit
looks like something big. I just happened to find this and the online ticket sales are closed.
If I have to miss this one, I think there will be tears on my pillow tonight.
Update: went and dropped 2k at the door for admission (shit). one of the key industry events indeed.
You should go either way. Good cause
don't care whatever the cause is, all for networking.
what makes you think anyone would want to network with you?
Ahhh, a wonderful attitude. Do yourself a favor and stay home.
C'mon, ANT, I know you are into such events. Don't feel bad for not being able to make it all the way from Philly.
1) I was in NYC last week for an event. I go to shit all over, but only stuff I actually care about or am involved in.
2) Yes, I go to these events because I am involved and participate in these charities.
The type of "networking" you are talking about doing is annoying, insulting and ineffectual. I'd suggest actually getting involved in activities that aren't entirely self serving as you could actually do some good, help people and make real connections.
i hope you die
won't anyone think of the children?
I love this kid rolling up to a charity event for children and trying to network with people who are there for a charitable cause.
Shitty networking skills.
It's boring
Children are boring too
will share some stories from last night the weekend.
Some of the attendees are from the following firms: D.E. Shaw & Co, Elliott Management, Moore Capital Management, Renaissance Technologies, SAC Capital Advisors, Tudor Investment Corporation, Kingdon Capital Management
anybody familiar with any of them?
Nope, we've never heard of any of those Troll.
feel bad for ya. Now, you know a few.
I'm skeptical that your username is an accurate description of you
You mean, hedge funder? NO. that's what I want to be. Hedger of life, Yes, all my life.
Don't bother going. Everyone's going to see right through this plan of yours. You're lack of caring about the actual event will show and your interest in their jobs will prove that.
Yeah, call me a scum, trying to network my ass off at some high industry events. so what? why bother? I donated 2k for whatever cause they claimed and got an opportunity to make myself visible to the top guns. Don't be hating because the one who shook hands with MDs from CS or GS was not you.
Not sure why you think anyone hates or gives a shit that you shook some hands. Meeting an MD isn't like meeting A Rod. I suppose your donation is all that matters. Too bad your superficiality can be seen a mile away. You'd do a lot better if you actually gave a shit about anything other than yourself, but continue being one dimensional. I'm sure all those MD's who probably give a shit and donated a lot more than $2K were jumping for joy to talk to you and your quest for a job instead of the charity or the needs of others.
Seriously man. $2K to meet people most of use meet all the time during work or for drinks/coffee? I'd consider it a poor ROI.
I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing. To me, it goes a different way. Whenever I am at an event like this, (you know almost 1000 important industry people attended), my adrenaline is just surreal. I'm floating. I'm lifted into heaven. Morale boosted to the highest level. I may sound like a peasant, but I feel soooo close to da TOP that moment.
Funny, you didn't mention CS or GS on your original list. Who are they?
Also, what a waste of 2K. You should have taken a sweet trip to Europa.
The list is my hedgie list. There were lawyers, bankers and big 4's as well. Of course, I went for the hedge fund people. but I didn't mind doing a litttle walk and talk with bankers. No worries, I will frequent europa later.
Holy shit, $2K as what I'm assuming is a student or entry-level finance guy just to talk to people you're not even sure exist? I only go to benefits to get drunk and used to go to get both drunk and laid, so best believe most people are there to do the same. Especially the MDs who hate their marriages.
Benefits are a like a goldmine of yet unwed spoiled girls from the North Shore/Fairfield/Westchester that like to volunteer and pretend they will find husbands.
Some of the most despicable women on Earth. Seems like OP is in the same league though. With any luck OP, you will find a nice man to settle down with in Westchester as well.
couldn't blame them. smart ladies rule! digging, digging, digging
I love you man, seriously. I would love to hang only if you are not straight. Getting both drunk and laid while being engaged simultaneously? I love you more.
Ok, a little story from that night: CNBC was there to shoot the event and to interview some figures. I approached the reporter, asked to be interviewed, representing the "one in a million" kind youngsters among the attendees. They turned me away. I told myself, "well, I'll wait, till the day you beg me for an interview"
Is the 2K tax deductible? ;-)
A large portion is. Why u care? interesting
