Bad look to cold email HF to see if they have internship opps?
Sophomore at Semi-target. I am interested in Credit and want to intern there next summer. Not many alumni in this specific asset class, and was wondering would it be rude to cold email credit funds asking for internship? (Obviously smaller AUM's) Would it be good to attach a credit pitch as well to show I'm serious?
It's a great way. Brett Caughran did a thread on Twitter around cold emailing for HF opts - recommend taking a look.
Absolutely fine, but definitely attach a pitch and perhaps a resume as well. Also, not sure if I'd ask for an internship right away. Instead, I'd ask for feedback on your pitch. If they like you, 90% chance they'll offer you an internship.
Sounds good. I was wondering since there are certain info on credit that isn't publicly available, what would constitute as a good credit pitch?
Was thinking:
1sit overview
2capstack
3thesis
4additional info (Covenants/indentures if I can find any)
5pros
etc.
This is a fine structure, add section for valuation / asset coverage and relative value. There's not much on public credit thats unavailable except for BBG prices and stuff (most avail. thru FINRA) so you'll have enough to do a pitch
Disagree. Be upfront about what you want: I'm looking for an internship, curious if you can talk, here is my resume and a sample of my work (write-up).
I agree with this disagreement
Cold email often works. Literally how I got my job at a $3B+ event-driven fund. Granted, I was qualified but they weren't looking when I took my shot. Take risks.
got it thank you. I was wondering when you cold emailed your current fund, did you attach a pitch as well? Or just float your resume?
Cold email got right to the point: 1) would love to learn more about your fund, 2) I am looking for a seat, 3) here's my resume, 4) here's a two sentence teaser for an idea.
Would assume the same works for FT roles as well?
A buddy of mine working in LO advised against me doing this. Anybody chime in?
