BB IB to HF

Interested in eventually landing at a l/s or activist hedge funds. Anyone have insight on the process? I assume it's less structured than PE on-cycle.

Is it possible to recruit for both PE/HFs or will I need to declare a preference here. I see pros/cons to both public and private markets, so looking to maximize brand/comp for the short-term until I figure things out.
