Best UG L/S Funds that have done SA Roles

Been looking around at various funds in L/S and L/O space. Any good funds that have or previously have SA openings? Ideally L/S fund ~1B+ AUM; decent track record w good street rep.

I know that MAP, Foxhaven, Baupost, etc. have taken a couple interns before. Wondering if any Tiger Cubs and/or other good spots have open positions or have in the past.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into L/S funds with strong reputations and potential SA opportunities:

  1. Tiger Cubs and Related Funds: Many Tiger Cubs (funds spun out of Tiger Management) are known for their strong reputations and occasionally offer internships. Examples include:

    • Viking Global Investors
    • Lone Pine Capital
    • Coatue Management
    • Tiger Global Management
  2. Well-Known L/S Funds:

    • Baupost Group: Known for its value-oriented approach and strong track record.
    • Foxhaven Asset Management: A smaller but highly regarded fund.
    • Maverick Capital: Another Tiger Cub with a solid reputation.
    • Third Point: A well-known activist and L/S fund.
  3. Funds with SA Opportunities:

    • Maplelane Capital: Known to have taken interns in the past.
    • Citadel: While more of a multi-strategy fund, they have L/S pods and are known for structured internship programs.
    • Point72: Similar to Citadel, they have L/S teams and offer internships.
  4. Other Notable Funds:

    • D.E. Shaw: A quant-heavy fund but with L/S strategies as well.
    • Millennium Management: Operates a multi-manager model with L/S teams.
    • Marshall Wace: A prominent L/S equity fund with a strong reputation.

Tips for Landing an SA Role:

  • Networking: Many of these funds hire interns through referrals or networking. Reaching out to alumni or professionals at these funds can be crucial.
  • Track Record: Highlight any relevant experience in equity research, stock pitches, or financial modeling.
  • Targeted Applications: Some funds may not openly advertise internships, so cold emailing with a tailored pitch can be effective.

If you're targeting funds with ~$1B+ AUM, focus on those with a history of taking interns and a strong reputation for mentorship.
