Biomedical Engineer breaking into finance (hedge fund)?
Hi! I'm currently a senior at a non-target university on the east coast studying Biomedical Engineering. I have done BME research internships at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, HHMI, and others. I'm currently a co-op at a medical lobbying firm in DC.
I am applying to various jobs and graduate schools, and I am considering breaking into the world of finance. Is this feasible, and what kind of opportunities would there be for Biomedical Engineers at hedge funds like TwoSigma?
N.B.: I'm not trying to be a BME at these companies. I want to apply my analytical skills but I am not sure if I am suited for Quant positions. I am also open to other positions, not just Quant! Thank you so much!
My first thought would be more on the fundamental side e.g at a healthcare/biotech-focused equity L/S HF looking at clinical trials or equipment manufacturers etc? Quant would still be on the table though depending on skill set.
I have friends who went from BME to finance, but they had at least 1 internship in finance to show interest.
I work in healthcare and have seen many fund managers with your background. Your skills and understanding of biology and science can be huge advantageous for biotech/hc focused L/S funds, instead of quants.
