Bridgewater Question
Hey I have a Bridgewater question.
I know they have a weird corporate ideology which can turn some people off, "Ride the boar, eat the mongoose" or something similar, whatever. That's fine. My question is, how do they treat their non-rain maker people. For people who have experience with being in a research position, are back office people generally treated like dirt, or is there some respect/camaraderie/upward mobility, that guide of thing?
Thanks.
the great monkeysama
In terms of perks at the office they are "separate but equal", the BO folks are in a separate building, quite nice but not anything like the main compound. Theres certainly an air of snobbery though, which to me doesnt make sense, since everyone in the BO is from a target school too, they prob just picked the wrong position to interview for (somethin i found very odd at bwater, the kids in the BO i knew were all h/y/p alum).
Overall great place to work, but they are going through "back office 2.0" which basically means they're cutting down mobility to other areas of the company. I wasnt in the BO so im not an authority, but i'd be demoralized.
Also keep in mind at Bwater there are only 3 "rain makers" (Ray Dalio, Bob Prince and Greg Jennsen) everyone else is just a spoke in the wheel, you will never make investment decisions. Its a very well oiled investment machine, and operates a very specific way, which is why they have such high turn over.
