Canadian HF industry

Would love to get people’s view on the state of hedge fund industry in Canada.

Are there a lot of jobs?
Do they invest in non-Canadian assets?
Has anyone here moved from the US (back) to Canada?

There are not a lot of jobs.

They also invest in non-Canadian assets.

I've mostly seen people who originally started in Canada, went to the U.S for a bit, and came back

Most Helpful

Lots of jobs at pension funds, mutual funds and other large traditional asset managers.

The PE landscape isn’t great as far as high quality firms go, but there are plenty of opportunities at small shops.

True HF investing space is tiny. Maybe 3-5 decent opportunities a year, at best.

Unless you need to be in Canada limiting yourself to looking for a HF job here is a terrible idea. Or you need to widen your range of what kind of job you want.
