Careers With the Quickest Advancement?

Where in finance is it most common for young people to rise to senior ranks quickly nowadays? I once met a guy who become a senior trader at a bank in his early 20s and launched a hedge fund at 27 starting with hundreds of millions in AUM (now at >5 Billion 20 years later). However, these stories of young successes are pre-2008 so what is the best path today that promotes quickly?

Probably equity L/S single manager if you want to launch your own fund.  I haven’t seen many 35 year old former pod guys launching vs. quite a few ex- SM guys in the past few years.

Probably pod though if you want highest chances of success for running capital though though places like Coatue promote super fast so might be a bit of a question there.
