Case study on work computer or personal computer?

Do you expect candidates to do interview case studies using their work computer (+access to CapIQ/Bloomberg) or using their personal computer (no access to CapIQ/Bloomberg)?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding take-home case studies:

  • Work Computer vs. Personal Computer: The context provided does not specify whether candidates should use their work computer or personal computer for take-home case studies. However, it is generally advisable to use the resources you have available to you, which might include access to databases like CapIQ or Bloomberg if you have them on your work computer.

  • Access to Resources: If you have access to CapIQ/Bloomberg on your work computer, it could be beneficial to use these tools to enhance the quality of your analysis. These resources can provide valuable data and insights that can strengthen your case study.

  • General Advice: The key is to ensure that your analysis is thorough and well-supported, regardless of the computer you use. Focus on how you think about the prompt, defend your ideas, and handle criticism, as these are critical aspects of case studies.

Depends if you want to get fired before you land the new job or not? If it’s for the firm you are already in, then work PC. Otherwise, personal PC.

I expect the candidate to be resourceful. If you produce a weak case study with the excuse of no bbg on the personal PC, you will get an eyeroll in response and not get the job, because no one has time for excuses.

If need be, pull up charts on work computer and take pics of them with your personal mobile phone. Be resourceful, it's what the job is about and what you are meant to prove in the case study.

what about the excel model? how is the candidate supposed to send an excel file if he built the original file on his work computer? I guess he can recreate the excel file on his personal computer once he's done just before sending?

Surely the above poster would encourage candidates to violate compliance policies at their existing firms? By that logic.
