You will probably just do modeling and valuation until you "get it."

I think you get it by simply being part of investment conversations at the fund.

Sounds like you need some basic understanding before coming up with investment idea. WSO has a good recommended reading sections, start there.

I guess I know my ass from my elbow

oooooh I beg to differ.

in all seriousness you will start as an analyst and your ideas (assuming you're in charge of sourcing ideas) will make money for the firm if your thesis turns out to be correct. think about how hedge funds make money (on profits from investments & from fees earned on existing & new money). you don't contribute to the rainmaking (MD's do that), so your value is in the quality of your investment ideas.

I seriously doubt that anyone in an IB role would ask this question.

I seriously doubt that the majority of the folks in a BO or MO role would even ask this question.

Just admit that you are a freshman in college or Senior in HS so that we can properly address your question.

Maybe I'm an interpretive dancer and have big dreams of being a cranky pants like you. Maybe I'm an idiot. Who knows? Lets comment related to the topic title brah.
